I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who has worked as a mental health/behavioral therapist with individuals, couples, and families in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Using a collaborative recovery process utilizing each individuals personal strengths. I have experience in addiction recovery, adjustment to change, anger management issues, anxiety/stress management, ADHD, depression/grief, developmental disorders, and trauma including PTSD.
I am an eclectic therapist in my theory and practice approach. I view individuals who come into my office as much as through the clients own eyes as possible, imagining their worldview and the system that goes to make up their problems. Looking and listening to what might be reinforcing unhealthy behaviors (the use of behaviorism), but also unhealthy thinking styles (CBT), I look at things not only from what might be reinforcing unhealthy behaviors (behaviorism), but also unhealthy thoughts (cognitive), for the highly emotional and individuals with substance use/abuse concerns learning how to understand tolerating and managing emotions (DBT), putting these theories to work and how they all relate together to and make up the individual human being sitting in front of me (humanistic).
I have certification in the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, a psychotherapy designed to treat mood disorders as well as those of need to change patterns of behavior that are not helpful, such as self-harm, suicidal ideation, and substance abuse.
CBT-problem focused and action oriented approach.
Solution Focused-borrowing from what Steve de Shaver observed, 'causes of problems may be extremely complex, their solutions do not necessarily need to be'
Combining behavioral techniques for emotional regulation and reality testing; an introduction to mindfulness and progressive muscle relaxation skills.
